TruAge exclusively relies on data points from valid physical or digital U.S. driver’s licenses, never estimations or triangulations based on outside databases. Whereas other license scans can intake 33+ points of data, TruAge uses only the four data points needed to legally verify age: driver's license number, issuing state, birthdate and expiration date.
As an industry-led not-for-profit, TruAge is built to ensure safer transactions — not profit from customer data. Each TruAge scan is logged as a unique, anonymized token that provides proof of age without storing personal data. TruAge works to comply with all states' privacy laws, ensuring that anonymous tokens cannot be traced back to the individual without legal authorization from a court-issued subpoena.
TruAge has been written into the World Wide Web Consortium’s Verifiable Credentials 2.0, making it the de facto global standard in secure, scalable age verification technologies. We meet the standards of government entities like the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and work with state and local government entities to collaborate on existing and future integrations.
